Privacy Policy

A plain-English v1. A few legal and contact details shown in [brackets] are being finalised ahead of public launch, and this policy will be reviewed by a lawyer.
Modebase is operated by Nerida Wendy Lindsay, a sole trader trading as “Modebase” (ABN 11 593 506 649) (“Modebase”, “we”, “us”), based in New South Wales, Australia. Contact: support@modebase.app.
Modebase is a digital wardrobe app. This policy explains what information we collect, why, where it goes, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it in plain English.
1. What we collect
Information you give us:
- Account details: your email address, and a display name if you set one.
- Photos of clothing: photos you take or upload of garments, and images our systems generate from them (cut-outs and catalogue-style renders).
- Selfies and avatar images: if you use the optional avatar feature, the selfie you provide and the styled avatar images generated from it. The app works without it.
- Voice recordings: if you use the optional show-and-tell capture, the audio you record about a garment, plus a text transcript and details extracted from it (for example brand, fabric, notes).
- Item and outfit details: names, brands, colours, notes, and other details you add about your clothes, outfits, and edits.
- Age confirmation: a record that you confirmed you are 18 or older (we do not collect your birthdate).
Information collected automatically:
- Usage information: actions in the app (for example items added, features used, AI generations requested), timestamps, and approximate technical context (device/browser type). We use this to run the service, enforce plan limits, and improve the product.
- Sharing statistics: view counts on lookbook links you create.
We do not use any third-party analytics tools.
What we do not collect: your birthdate, your contacts, your precise location, or your photo library beyond the photos you explicitly select.
2. How we use your information
- To provide the service: storing your wardrobe, generating cut-outs, renders, and avatar images, transcribing and extracting details from voice captures, and building outfits and edits.
- To operate your plan: counting usage against trial or subscription limits.
- To keep the service safe: rate limiting, abuse prevention, and reviewing reported content.
- To communicate with you: sign-in codes and essential service emails. We do not send marketing email unless you opt in.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show advertising.
3. Who processes your information
We use a small number of providers to run Modebase. They process your information on our behalf to provide the service:
- Supabase (database, authentication, file storage): stores your account, wardrobe data, images, audio, and transcripts. Data is stored in Supabase’s Asia Pacific (Singapore, ap-southeast-1) region; this means your data is held outside Australia.
- Vercel (hosting): serves the app and its pages.
- OpenAI (image and audio processing): photos and selfies are sent to OpenAI’s API to detect garments and generate cut-outs, renders, and avatar images; audio is sent to OpenAI’s speech-to-text to transcribe your voice captures. Per OpenAI’s API terms at the time of writing, content submitted through the API is not used to train their models by default.
- Anthropic (text and image understanding): garment photos, transcripts, and details are sent to Anthropic’s Claude API to read tags and labels and extract structured details. Content submitted through the API is not used to train their models by default.
- remove.bg (image processing): photos may be sent to remove.bg to produce background-removed cut-outs.
- Resend (email): sends sign-in codes and service emails to your address.
- Stripe (payments): if you subscribe to a paid plan, Stripe processes your payment and manages the subscription. We receive confirmation of your subscription status and a customer reference, but we never see or store your full card details - those are handled by Stripe under its own privacy policy.
We do not otherwise share your personal information with third parties, except if required by law or to protect the safety of the service and its users.
4. Sharing you control (lookbooks)
If you create a lookbook link, anyone with that link can view the shared items. Shared pages show only garment images, item names, brands, categories, and colours, plus the title, note, and first name you choose to include. They never show your prices, personal notes, stories, or wear history. You can revoke any lookbook link at any time in the app, which disables it.
4a. Connecting your assistant (the Modebase connector)
You can connect Modebase to your own AI assistant (such as Claude or ChatGPT). When you do, your assistant can, at your request and under the permission you grant, read the same limited set of wardrobe information a lookbook would show — garment images, item names, brands, categories, and colours — and add records like outfits and wear logs. It can never access your prices, personal notes, stories, or wear history. Every request is initiated by your assistant on your behalf under your grant; Modebase does not push your data anywhere.
Your conversations with your assistant happen inside that assistant and are governed by your own terms with its provider (Anthropic or OpenAI), not by Modebase. You can revoke a connection at any time on your profile, with immediate effect — once revoked, the assistant can no longer reach your wardrobe.
When you express a wardrobe preference, your assistant may save a short note about it to your Style Profile(for example “prefers gold jewellery”), so styling stays consistent across conversations. Every such note is visible and editable in your profile and can be deleted at any time; only short wardrobe preferences are stored, never your conversations. Deleting your account removes your Style Profile along with everything else.
5. Where your data lives and how it is protected
Your data is stored with Supabase. Images and files are kept in access-controlled storage; original photos and selfies always require authorisation, while optimised image variants used for fast loading may be served through content-delivery caches via links that are not publicly listed. All data moves over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is perfectly secure, but we design access so your private content is only available to your account and the providers listed above.
6. How long we keep things
- Your content (photos, renders, selfies, audio, transcripts, wardrobe data) is kept while your account is active.
- If you delete an item, its images and data are deleted from our systems.
- If you delete your account, we permanently delete your content and personal information from our systems, including photos, selfies, avatar images, voice recordings, and transcripts. Backups held by our database provider that include your data expire on a rolling basis, typically within 30 days.
- If you subscribe, records required to run and account for the subscription (for example your Stripe customer reference, plan status, and payment history held by Stripe) are kept for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet our legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
- We may keep minimal non-identifying records (for example aggregate usage counts) after deletion.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: you can view and edit your information in the app, or contact us for anything you cannot reach.
- Deletion: you can delete individual items at any time, and delete your entire account in the app (Profile → Delete my account). Deletion is permanent.
- Optional features: selfies, avatar styling, and voice capture are optional; the core app works without them.
- We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles, and will honour applicable rights under other privacy laws where they apply to you. To raise a concern, contact support@modebase.app. If you are unsatisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
8. Age
Modebase is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18; if we learn we hold such information, we will delete it. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, contact us at support@modebase.app.
9. Data breaches
If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify affected users and the OAIC in accordance with Australian law.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will post changes here with a new effective date, and for significant changes we will notify you in the app or by email.
